Meditation: Mastering the Fundamentals – A Webinar with Fr. John Bartunek

Dear Friends – I am pleased to announce that Fr. John Bartunek, author of The Better Part, will provide us with insights into the fundamentals of Christian meditation. In this Webinar he will cover the basic concepts that keep us focused in mental prayer. This webinar is scheduled for Saturday March 10th from 10:30am Central Time to 11:30am Central Time.

Some of the questions he will answer will be:

  • What are the essential elements of mental prayer?
  • What is the difference between mental and vocal prayer?
  • What is the basic structure of a time of mental prayer?
  • What is the relationship between meditation and contemplation in the context of mental prayer?

    But The Better Part

Have you considered recording it as a podcast as well?

    • danburke

Yes – we don’t have the time/capacity to do it. If you know anyone who would like to volunteer to edit the audio and make it available, we would be more than grateful for the help.

This was an awesome class!!  I am especially grateful for the way prayer was defined as being a relationship.  I’ve heard it described as conversation with a close friend….but that doesn’t say quite the same thing, nor bring us to “pray always”.  Conversations usually end, but the relationship doesn’t………and most importantly, the relationship continues, develops, and grows through the actions of our daily lives, even when we aren’t consciously praying.

Just a note about fitting prayer into our schedules, this is from my mom……and probably a lot of other moms out there:  “We can always find time for what is important to us….be it, TV, sporting events, games, or prayer.  When we make it important…or put our heart into it, we will find the time.

I am praying for the continued growth of this site and the fulfillment of your ‘wish list’ according to God’s will.

Thanks again to both Fr. John & Dan!

I have heard Father Bartunek speak on this and other things a number of times, I have read his book TBP, and I think a friend of mine even edited the short version on Christian Meditation he wrote- but I still get something meaningful out of every talk I hear him give! I really like the interactive visuals on these webinars- the power points really help. I would have liked more time to transcribe some of the definitions and quotes he gave as well- but I think they are in the books mentioned. I think only two things could possibly improve this webinar interface- one would be if we could see you guys talking, as if we were in a lecture hall (I know this is probably impossible) and the second would be transcript notes. Not the whole transcript per se but maybe notes, with CCC refs. Scripture refs. major points etc. made on the slides– that is just because I can’t write, and listen, and take it all in, (shoo my kids away from the door during the webinar!) all at the same time!

Wonderful webinar. I could really hear and feel Fr. Bartunek’s passion for God coming through. He was very dynamic and knowledgeable. Thank you for all of your efforts in putting this together. I will pray for the fruit of this ministry to continue to increase!

Would like to see the ‘Webinar’ on CD
I tried to view today and was unable to do so, even though I was signed up…. it would not let me view.   :~(

Thank you Father Bartunek!  It is so good to get clear explanations of vocal and mental prayer, and how mental prayer is described in different spiritualities.  Your talk was very helpful and inspiring.

My mother happened to come in the room when I was on the webinar and she was completely in awe of the material she was hearing. Though a cradle Catholic, she still did not know much of the information in the webinar and it was a whole new learning experience for her. Needless to say, she overtook my spot and is looking forward to another webinar.

I agree with the others when they say they could hear the passion Father has for our Lord. That is hard to accomplish when someone is not in person and you can’t even see their facial expressions over the internet. Father is such a wonderful speaker!

The only downside to the webinar was that it was too short as was the other one Dan hosted. It is so much information in such a short period of time. It would be nice to have a longer block of time or a 3 – 6 week series. Knowing that it is a compacity and time issue, I pray you find the resources to help make this happen.

Not for this webinar. But, we will have a repeat and more. Once we can raise sufficient funds, we will provide more options like this. At this point we have the limit of what we can provide.

  • danburke

Dear Friend – the reason for this is likely because we had several hundred folks signed up and only 100 seats available in our software. See the other responses to answer your question fully.

The Webinar was excellant!!  Thank you for offering such a good program on prayer.   How I wish everyone could have listened to it.

I found it awesome, thank you. I read TBP on my iPhone but I think I will have to buy a copy. It was so helpful and the slides were really interesting. Please tell us if you are ever visiting the UK, would love to hear you in person.
