I've always thought of Jesus' words on the cross, "I thirst," not as a thirst for water, though truly He was drained of all water and blood as He died, but as a thirst for souls, for each and every soul on earth. That would include me. As I grow closer to Christ, I long to quench His thirst with my little love, but also to bring souls to Him to satisfy this undying thirst. It is an awesome thought, but all the saints seem to intuit through the Holy Spirit, this great thirst of Jesus for our love, as little and mean as we may personally feel our love to be. To Him, it is everything. To us, He is everything. The closer I get, the more I thirst for Him.

Dan,

That thought sort of turns everything on its head, doesn't it? I desire to be with Jesus because He is everything good. How absurd to contemplate that He should desire to be with me, when I have only my pitiful and sinful self to offer.

I will think on this one tonight, and I can already tell I'll be doing it in tears. I'm glad you shared this, I'm glad I read it.
