Can one still offer up a suffering that at first you resist and complain about? For instance, I might grumble and even despise being sick on my day off, but can I later (that day or even that hour) make the intention of offering it up, recognizing after reflection that God allowed it and I should make good of it? Or is it "spoiled" and unredeemable if I have not accepted it graciously from the start? I often have a fault of complaining aloud or to myself about something but later at prayer, I realize it was an opportunity to sacrifice, so I go ahead and offer it up. Is there any value to that?

How far back can we offer things up? Can one offer up abuse suffered as a child now as an adult? (That's an extreme example.) Since God does not exist in time He sees our whole lives as though present now. So can we offer up previous suffering (hours, days, years before the present moment), even though we do exist in time?

I can truly appreciate the steps you have outlined in how redemptive suffering works.

I have aches and pains here and there and I feel these are nothing compared to the intense suffering of others with chronic illnesses. I want to see the pain of one closest to me subside through offering up my aches and pains.

It hasn't always happened so easily.

Maybe I am missing the point. My pains seem to go away but the pain of one closest to me just keeps getting worse and I am helpless.

I am accused of loosing my faith and questioning God.

But God knows my broken heart and He comforts me.

Oh Father John! What an uplifting advice. Every time I read your articles, I learn something new that illuminates my path of Faith ever more clearly. You cannot imagine just how much you are helping me in understanding and appreciating my Catholic Faith. I shall benefit immensely by following your advices and practicing what you reveal in these Spiritual Directions in my daily life. Now I know how to live a Christ-shared life each day by offering every facet of my daily life to Him for the greater Glory of God. God bless you
